Stimulus Survey Results 2/11/09

Professionals Name I-66 inside Beltway and
Fairfax County Parkway Top Stimulus Picks

A Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance survey of 20 area private sector transportation professionals finds that I-66 westbound inside the Beltway and the Fairfax County Parkway/Fair Lakes Parkway/Monument Drive Interchange are the top investment choices for federal stimulus dollars.

Other projects receiving frequent mention include the Fairfax County Parkway EPG Extension (Phases 3 and 4), widening Route 50 in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties, resurfacing I-66 outside the Beltway, the Route 29/Gallows Road Interchange and Route 234/Dumfries Road intersection improvements.

In January the Alliance sent a list of 19 projects deemed "ready to go to construction in six months" by local governments to a group of transportation professionals. The list also included estimates as to the amount of remaining dollars needed to fully fund construction of each project.

Respondents were asked to select the top three projects in terms of regional significance. They were also asked to select the most important projects if Northern Virginia were to receive a total of $100 million in federal stimulus dollars as well as what projects they would select if $200 million in federal stimulus dollars were available to the region.

The results are as follows. The rankings were determined by the frequency with which a project was selected.
