Fairfax Supervisors Reaffirm Support for I-66 02/23/09

Fairfax County Board of Supervisors
Reaffirm Support for I-66 Improvements

By a unanimous vote the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors reaffirmed today the County’s support for I-66 westbound inside the Beltway spot improvements and agreed to send a letter requesting the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) take up this matter and reinstate this project at its March 18, 2009 meeting.

Board Chairman Sharon Bulova started the discussion by making clear that, “This project IS a county priority.”

Supervisor Pat Herrity noted that Fairfax County residents would be hardest hit if the project was not reinstated in the regional plan and asked that a letter reaffirming the Board’s action be sent to Northern Virginia’s congressional delegation.

Noting that the westbound improvements had been discussed since 2004, Supervisor Michael Frey observed that this delay and recent action by the TPB demonstrates why it is little wonder that area residents lack confidence in government’s ability to meet their transportation needs.

Please take the time to thank Board members for their action.
