CTB Votes to Reopen Rest Areas 1/20/10
"Let Freedom Ring"
CTB Votes to Reopen Rest Areas

The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) voted today to reopen the 19 roadside rest areas closed during the Kaine Administration to help address the $4.6 billion Six-Year Improvement Program (SYIP) shortfall. The closings represented a $9 million savings.

All rest areas will be reopened by April 17, 2010.

The four northern Virginia facilities (I-66/Manassas Eastbound and Westbound, I-95/Dale City Northbound and Southbound) will reopen by March 17, 2010.

The $3 million required to reopen and operate these facilities for the balance of FY 10 (June 30th, 2010) will come from VDOT reserve funds.

A funding plan for FY 11 will be submitted to the CTB in the spring.
