Highway and Transit Prioritization
Highway and Transit Prioritization
For years the Alliance has decried the fact that Northern Virginia lacks performance-based transportation priorities and that too little weight is assigned to congestion reduction when deciding what highway and transit projects to fund. Freshman Northern Virginia delegate Jim LeMunyon has introduced legislation to address this shortcoming.
Bill Number: HB 779
Chief Patron: Delegate Jim LeMunyon
Co-Patrons: Delegates Tim Hugo and Barbara Comstock
Description: Requires VDOT and VDRPT to evaluate and make periodic reports on highway and public transportation projects in the Northern Virginia highway construction district. The reports are to provide an objective, quantitative rating for: (i) the total amount of reduction in traffic congestion regionally on major highways in the Northern Virginia construction district, and separately (ii) the amount of reduction in traffic congestion expected to be achieved per dollar spent on the project.
