(May 13, 2004)
On Wednesday, May 19th the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board (TPB) will vote on whether to include a Feasibility Study for Improving Mobility Westbound in the I-66 Corridor Inside the Capital Beltway from Rosslyn to the Dulles Access Road in the FY 2004-2009 Transportation Improvement Program.
This study is made possible by $1.2 million in National Corridor Planning and Development funds secured by Congressmen Frank Wolf and Tom Davis.
The study will “inventory mobility alternatives” including “no build/status quo,” transit option(s), HOT/HOV options and an actual new highway lane option.
But the study can’t move forward unless it’s in the Transportation Improvement Program.
That’s why expressing your support for this study today is so important.
To register your support cut and paste the sample message below or compose your own message in the subject window. Be certain to include your name and address.
I-66 is a regional priority. One need not be an Arlington resident to record one’s support.
Anti-road forces are certain to vigorously oppose this common sense measure.

The Honorable Christopher Zimmerman, Chairman
MWCOG / Transportation Planning Board

Dear Chairman Zimmerman:
I urge the National Capital Region Transportation Planning Board to include the I-66 Westbound Lane Inside the Capital Beltway Feasibility Study in the FY 2004-2009 Transportation Improvement Program.
I-66 Inside the Beltway is a major regional choke-point that impedes daily travel and threatens the safety and well-being of area residents in the event of a major attack on this area.
Determining the best way to improve capacity westbound (and eastbound) in this key corridor is essential.
The proposed feasibility study is a prudent step towards achieving this objective and merits inclusion in the region’s Transportation Improvement Program.
Sincerely,
